I am one of those people that tend to go overboard when it comes to reading. I like to read multiple books at once and get a lot of books from the library. But, when I purchase books I always like to get the best deals. I like to have a chance to get more books for my spending budget and I thought to myself why not create a post talking about the ways I get cheaper books. I listed below ten options for getting cheaper books. I hope you enjoy!
Visit The Library
The library is at the top of my list because it is usually the place I get majority of my books. The books are: Free. Free. and did I mention Free? You can have an endless amount of books to read for free and as long as you have a library card which is usually a small fee. But, overall, the small fee does not compare to the many books you can checkout.
The library also has clearance books that someone can buy which are usually $2 or less -- which means books are cheaper than the normal buying price. The profits are used to fund the libraries so I highly suggest the library.
use websites for used books
I have come across many online used bookstores as well as books that sell brand new books. I suggest using sites such as Thriftbooks, Powell, Ebay, Half Priced Books and surprisingly Instagram pages that sell used books. Thriftbooks is one of my favorite sites to use because of the discounts, rewards and free shipping once you accumulate $10 in your cart! Amazon is also another platform that sells used and brand new books but I wanted to mention other sites that you might not have heard of. I suggest to check around for the best options for the books you want to buy!
SWapping BOOKS WITH FRIENDS
Swapping books with friends can be a cheaper way to read books that have been on your TBR. I have a lengthy TBR and sometimes some of my book friends can have books that I want to read and it saves me money. All I have to do is pay for shipping which is sometimes cheaper than buying the book completely outright. Plus swapping books with friends can be a fun reason to chat about books that you both have read!
There are many book memberships in society such as Amazon Kindle Unlimited, Prime Reading, Comixology, Overdrive, Scribd, Bookbub, and many more. I think paying a monthly fee but you have access to thousands of books can be beneficial. Sometimes buying each book you want can add up and end up costing you a lot of money instead of renting them through a book membership! I am part of two book memberships and think it saves me a lot of money because of the book options I have.
write Book Reviews
Writing book reviews are fun for two reasons: you get a chance to voice your opinion about a book and you get a chance to get a free book. Writing book reviews you get a chance to exchange your thoughts on a book for a free book. You don't have to spend any money to get the book that was given to you and saves you money on a book you potentially wanted to read anyways. You can get free books through NetGalley, publishing companies, or the authors themselves.
look at Instagram book hashtags
I used to be addicted to the idea of book giveaways because I had a chance to win free books. I realized that sometimes people give out their books sometimes for free (ebook verison) if you check out kindle unlimited or kindle books hashtags. I have been able to grab a few books for free because people would have a special day or release of their book and decided to give people access to their books for free. So, I suggest to look at the hashtags!
Thriftstores have been a gem to find books for a cheaper price. I have come across books for 50 cent, $1 and have been popular series. I personally love Goodwill and the discounts they have on their already 50 cent book section. I have collected majority of my purchased books through thriftstores because of the deals. You will be surprised what you find!
visit dollar tree
Dollar Tree has surprised me over the years because of their selection of books. So, let me go down memory lane...
I want to tell you a story about Dollar Tree and their book selection. One day I went to a bookstore and saw I book I wanted for $14, I decided to wait to purchase it because I was on a budget for book purchasing. I went to Dollar Tree a few days later and ended up finding that same book at Dollar Tree (for $1 of course). I was in total shock and noticed that there were quite a few popular books at Dollar Tree stores. I highly believe that you can find some gems at Dollar Tree.
compare book prices on different search engines
Wiki Buy has been added to my Google Chrome bowser because of the different options it gives me for seeing if I am getting the best deal. I say that you search on other search engines because they can show you the best prices for the book you are searching for. You can see certain things with Google and Yahoo can end up showing you different options. So, I suggest that you find the best price for buying your books!
download book apps
There are many book apps that can give you free books or cheaper books. I think apps like Overdrive, Serial Box, Wattpad, Audiobook and Kindle book reader app are great for getting cheaper options for books. Some of these apps can give free books such as classics (Serial Box and Kindle Book Reader app) or have freebies randomly. I think book apps are an unique way to read books but they can be cheaper than buying physical books.
Finding books for cheaper prices can be a fun adventure once you know where to look. I have been finding books for all types of prices and sometimes I have to get books that are ebook versions to get a cheaper price or sometimes I will end up purchasing a book that is significantly cheaper than an ebook. I definitely recommend deciding what the best route for you finding the right buying experience is!
